Pyrazinamide, Tebrazid is converted to pyrazinoic acid in susceptible strains of Mycobacterium.  The exact mechanism of action has not been established, but the presence of pyrazinoic acid lowers the pH of the environment which may be involved in its antitubercular effects.

Treatment of tuberculosis in combination with other antituberculosis agents.

Before starting Pyrazinamide, Tebrazid make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you have acute gout, severe hepatic damage, a history of alcoholism, diabetes, porphyria, renal impairment, are pregnant, or breastfeeding. Pyrazinamide, Tebrazid use has been associated with rare but serious adverse events such as hepatotoxicity.

Oral:    

Once-daily therapy:
40 – 55 kg: 1000 mg once daily
56 – 75 kg: 1500 mg once daily
76 – 90 kg: 2000 mg once daily

Three-times-weekly regimen:
40 – 55 kg: 1500 mg 3 times weekly
56 – 75 kg: 2500 mg 3 times weekly
76 – 90 kg: 3000 mg 3 times weekly

Twice-weekly regimen:
40 – 55 kg: 2000 mg twice weekly
56 – 75 kg: 3000 mg twice weekly
76 – 90 kg: 4000 mg twice weekly

How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, take consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature.  May take without regard to food.  Doses should be based on lean body weight for patients within a normal weight range for their height (optimal dosing for obese patients has not been established).  Always administer in combination with other antitubercular drugs.

Malaise, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, arthralgia, myalgia
