Fetal toxicity:
When pregnancy is detected, discontinue captopril as soon as possible. Drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus.”

Captopril lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels which can reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke.

Hypertension, heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, diabetic nephropathy, myocardial infarction with left ventricular dysfunction (may also be used for conditions not listed)

Before starting Captopril make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you have kidney disease, an electrolyte imbalance, liver disease, if you are on a low sodium diet, or are pregnant or breastfeeding

6.25mg-50mg three times a day

How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, administer on empty stomach at least one hour prior to a meal, take consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature

You Need to Avoid: Careful standing up too quickly as you may get dizzy, and do not supplement with potassium unless instructed by physician

Dry cough, hypotension, dizziness, fatigue, hyperkalemia (high potassium), nausea/vomiting, hyperuricemia (can result in gout attacks)

1. Why can’t I stop coughing?
   It is a common side effect of Captopril that is not harmful however it will likely not stop until the medication is changed so contact your physician for a similar alternative
2. What do I do if I show signs of high potassium levels (nausea, weakness, irregular heartbeat, tingling sensation, loss of movement)
   Seek immediate medical attention, it is a rare but potentially serious side effect of Captopril.
